In Canada and many other countries, potato wart is a regulated pest. When potato wart is detected, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) implements control measures to help contain, control, and prevent the spread of the disease both domestically and internationally.
The Potato Wart Order is currently in place for the province of Prince Edward Island (PEI). It restricts the movement of seed, table stock and processing potatoes, as well as other regulated things, such as farm equipment, soil, and sod, within the province and to other parts of Canada.
Movement of potatoes and regulated things may be permitted if certain conditions are met. These conditions are set out in the National Potato Wart Response Plan. Movement restrictions will depend on the category for a field.
