Establishments
- Establishments must be approved by Vietnam authorities. As of July 18, 2017, responsibility for approving foreign establishments to export foodstuffs of animal origin and for maintaining the above-noted list rests with the Department of Animal Health (DAH) of Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
- The operator must apply for approval by completing Annex D – Form 9 of Appendix 1 of Decree 15/2018/ND-CP, provided by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
Note: Currently Vietnam does not allow beef derived from imported cattle. The application form 9 for establishment approval must not include live cattle imported from the US or other countries
- The establishment approval procedure by DAH will take at minimum thirty (30) working days after submission of the required information. After the establishment is approved they should appear on the DAH list of foreign establishments eligible to export meat and animal meat products to Vietnam (Vietnamese only)

Product specifications
- Vietnam has specific chemical residue (MRL) and microbiological requirements for meat products that may differ from Canadian requirements. Imported products may be subject to testing upon arrival in Vietnam and may be rejected when found out of compliance.
Labelling, packaging and marking requirements
- The expiry date must be present on the product packaging of all meat shipments exported to Vietnam. To ensure this requirement is met, the authorities will inspect product packaging for the presence of the production and expiry dates. If no expiry date is found on the product packaging, the load will not be permitted to enter the country and will be returned to Canada.
- The exporter and importer are responsible to ensure that the products are labelled in keeping with Vietnamese requirements.
