Stack events
After you apply, the CFIA will review the information and will send you a letter (within 60 days of notification). The letter will inform you of any concerns the CFIA may have about the livestock feed use of the plant with stacked traits.
Additional information: The CFIA reserves the right to request and review data to support the safe use of the modified plant in livestock feed.
Novelty determination opinion
Feed determined to be novel
If the CFIA determines that your feed is novel prior to the manufacture, sale or importation as a livestock feed, you must: apply for a pre-market evaluation by using the application for approval or registration form.
Feed determined not to be novel
If the CFIA determines that your feed isn't novel, you don't need to apply for a pre-market evaluation.
Additional information: Other regulatory obligations and/or oversight from other programs in the CFIA or other government departments may still apply to your feed.
Pre-submission consultation
Refer to chapter 8 of the RG-1 Regulatory guidance document for more information about the pre-submission consultation procedures for livestock feed.
Request for product/label review
After the product/label is reviewed, the CFIA will tell you whether or not your feed requires premarket evaluation for approval or registration.
Incidental feed additive (IFA)
If the CFIA evaluation does not identify safety concerns with the IFA when used as intended during manufacture, you will be sent a Letter of No Objection. However, if the CFIA identifies safety concerns with the IFA, you will be sent a letter explaining these concerns.
Additional information: Other regulatory obligations and/or oversight from other programs in the CFIA or other government departments may still apply to your IFA.
Modification to incorporation by reference (IBR) document or regulatory guidance
After the evaluation of the request, the CFIA will communicate with you regarding the outcome of the evaluation and any further steps that may be required.
