- Origin & Breeding: bred from the cross (Nooksack x ND9567-2Russ) and released by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station, Fargo, North Dakota (USA) and the USDA in 1985.

Botanical Features
- Plants: large, upright, vigorous; stems large, thick, pigmented; wings waved, pigmented; nodes pigmented.
- Leaves: large, open, slightly pubescent; petioles slightly pigmented.
Terminal leaflets: medium ovate; base partly truncate, slightly asymmetrical.
Primary leaflets: three to four pairs; broadly ovate.
Secondary and tertiary leaflets: numerous. - Flowers: numerous, large red-purple corolla with white tips; yellow-orange anther; flower buds slightly pigmented.
- Tubers: oblong to cylindrical, smooth; russetted tan skin; shallow eyes; short eyebrows, slightly curved; white flesh.
- Sprouts: ovoid, dark purple.
Agricultural Features
Medium to high yielding variety, tubers of attractive appearance; slightly susceptible to hollow heart; good storability; long dormancy period; high specific gravity.
REMARK: In New Brunswick, Norking Russet does not process well into frozen french fries as they turn a gray colour after frying.
- Utilization: good for boiling and baking; fair to good for processing into frozen french fries.
- Chief Markets: fresh market, frozen french fries.
Reaction to Diseases
Resistant: verticillium wilt, common scab.
Susceptible: most viruses, late blight.
Highly susceptible: early blight.
