Notice to industry - Important update: Changes coming to the Harmonized System codes in Automated Import Reference System

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is working to update its systems to reflect the soon to be updated Harmonized System (HS) code structure coming into effect January 1, 2022 as a result of recent changes announced by the World Customs Organization. These codes are used at the CFIA as part of the Automated Import Reference System (AIRS) and are updated every 5 years. HS codes are used worldwide for the uniform classification of goods traded internationally.

Importers and exporters who use the HS codes in the Automated Import Reference System (AIRS) review the 2022 HS Code structure table for updates.

If you have any questions, please refer to the Understanding the Harmonized System Updates – January 2022 Fact Sheet.
