As part of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) commitment to increasing access to digital-first tools and services, hatcheries are now able to:
- create or update their existing My CFIA profile with hatchery as a declared business activity; and
- apply for their hatchery licence.
By using My CFIA you will be able to apply for, manage, track, and pay for your service requests through one secure online platform.
Hatchery licensing
The following industry walkthrough sessions will be held on September 27 to help support you through your licence application:
- English session – Wednesday, September 27, 2023 – 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM EST
- French session – Wednesday, September 27, 2023 – 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM EST
Industry members will receive an email in the coming days with instructions on how to participate.
By November 9, 2023 all hatcheries with permits issued by the CFIA should transition to the new licensing system as required under recent amendments to the Health of Animals Regulations (HAR) relating to hatcheries and supply flocks.
Next steps for industry
If you already have an existing My CFIA profile, you are encouraged to review your account information, update your declared business activities to include hatchery, and begin applying for your licence.

When setting up your preferred method of payment, the on-account option is the most efficient billing method for businesses who submit more than one application a year. To set this up, you will need to submit an application for credit (CFIA/ACIA 0015).
