Notice to industry: Now accepting change requests for the List of Primary Fertilizer and Supplement Materials

March 25, 2025

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is now accepting requests for additions, changes and deletions for the List of Primary Fertilizer and Supplement Materials. An overview of the process and required forms has been published: T-4-133 – Requesting a change to the List of Primary Fertilizer and Supplement Materials.

The List of Primary Fertilizer and Supplement Materials contains the "terms" and "definitions" (including compositional criteria) of primary fertilizer and supplement materials that are exempt from registration and may be imported or sold in Canada without the CFIA's prior approval. The addition of a term to this list can accelerate market access for products containing that material.

Products that are exempt from registration are still subject to regulation and must meet all prescribed standards and be accurately labelled at the time of import or sale.

Contact the Fertilizer Safety Section if you have questions or need more information.
