Pre-export approvals by the competent authority of the importing country
Import Permit
- Permit issued to Jamaican importer by Veterinary Services Division of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries (MICAF)
- Copy of import permit must be provided to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) prior to receiving export certification for dairy products and dairy based foods.
- If the import permit cannot be provided to the CFIA, the standard health certificate and veterinarian certificate will be issued, so long as the exporter is aware that potential issues may arise at the port-of-entry.
Production controls and inspection requirements
- If imported ingredients were used to make the product, the exporter must provide the CFIA with certificates issued by foreign competent authorities. The relevant documentation and, if applicable, appropriate certificates of analysis will be used to determine if the imported ingredients meet the conditions for which the exported product is certified.
- If the statements on the import permit do not match the statements of the health certificate, the CFIA requires a non-responsibility letter from the exporter.
