Oman - Export requirements for fish and seafood

Eligible

All live and non-live, wild and farmed fish and seafood, including:

  • finfish
  • crustaceans
  • bivalve molluscs
  • echinoderms
  • tunicates
  • marine gastropods

Ineligible

Aquatic animals which have been genetically modified.

Pre-export approvals by competent authority of importing country

Establishments

Establishments must be in compliance with Canadian regulations and be licensed under the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) for the required activity and appear on the list of Canadian fish and seafood establishments approved for export. Contact your local Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) office if your establishment is not on this list.

Product specifications

The exporter must be aware of the standards and requirements of the importing country. An export control plan must be in place to demonstrate that your products meet the requirements of the importing country. Customs authorities may conduct sampling and testing activities on exported products to verify compliance to importing country requirements.

Packaging, labelling and marking requirements

The fishery products are to be marked in accordance with Section I of Annex II to Regulation GSO No. 9/2013 - Labeling of Prepackaged Food Stuffs. Exporters are encouraged to confirm with their importers the packaging, labelling and marking requirements prior to exporting.

Documentation requirements

Certificate

Note: It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure that the certificate is completed in a manner that will be accepted by the Border Control Post (BCP) of the importing country.

1. For live and non-live fish and crustaceans

  • Health certificate for the export of live fish, live crustaceans, and products derived from these animals for human consumption from Canada to the Sultanate of Oman (CFIA/ACIA FA1059)

2. For live and non-live bivalve molluscs, echinoderms, tunicates, and marine gastropods (including the adductor muscle of Pectinidae [scallops])

  • Health certificate for the export of live bivalve molluscs, live echinoderms, live tunicates, live marine gastropods and products derived from these animals for human consumption from Canada to the Sultanate of Oman (CFIA/ACIA FA1060)
