CFIA-approved animal health diagnostic laboratories

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) approves certain laboratories to test for animal diseases on our behalf. These approved laboratories are listed in the following table.

Laboratories that test for federally reportable diseases are grouped into networks. This helps us manage and oversee their work. To be approved, laboratories must:

  • be accredited to the International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 17025 Standard, with the CFIA-approved test method included in their accreditation
  • take part in CFIA's proficiency testing program
  • follow other network and disease-specific requirements

Each lab network is linked to 1 of our CFIA reference laboratories. These include national reference laboratories and international reference laboratories recognized by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

Laboratories that are not part of these networks may still do testing for export certification, following CFIA's Policy on the Use of External Laboratories for Export Testing. These laboratories are not listed in the table.

The CFIA Animal Health Science Directorate manages the approval process. If you have questions, email: CFIA.AH.LaboratoryServices-ServicesdesLaboratoires.SA.ACIA@inspection.gc.ca.
