From: Canadian Food Inspection Agency

Step 3. Before you apply

Do you already have an active permit to operate a hatchery that was issued before November 9th 2023?

  • Yes
  • No

You'll need to transition your existing permit to the new licence to operate a hatchery.

You'll need your Facility Registration Number to complete the transition.

You can transition your permit to a licence using My CFIA.

You'll need the following to apply for a licence to operate a hatchery:

  • a copy of the proof to operate a business (provincial or municipal authorization)
  • the company's Articles of Incorporation (if applicable)
  • a letter from a provincial or municipal environmental agency stating that the hatchery complies with local codes of municipal sewage and septic systems

Each hatchery needs a separate licence

Each of the premises where you're looking to operate a hatchery needs a separate licence and licence number.
