Aquatic animal export: certification requirements for Australia

Exporters are advised that in order to be eligible for certification to Australia they must contact their local Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Office in advance of export to determine the requirements and accommodate the scheduling of inspections. The following certificates are available:

  • Aquatic Animal Health Certificate for the Export of Aquatic Animals for Use as Bait or Aquaculture Feed from Canada to Australia (AQAH-1012)
    • Currently, certificate (AQAH-1012) only applies to the export of herring (Clupea species) for use as bait or aquaculture feed
      This commodity requires inspection of the animals prior to processing. Exporters are advised to contact their local CFIA Office in advance of harvesting to determine the requirements and, if required, accommodate the scheduling of inspections which must occur prior to processing and freezing.
  • Aquatic Animal Health and Sanitary Certificate for the Export of Fresh, Chilled or Frozen Salmonid Products for Human Consumption from Canada to Australia (AQAH-1063)
    • The AQAH-1063 is a Joint Certificate containing both Food Safety/Public Health and Aquatic Animal Health attestations
      The AQAH-1063 must be validated, dated and issued by the CFIA Veterinary Inspector while the product is still in Canada and available for inspection. Product which in not located in Canada at the time of signature is not eligible for certification using this export certificate. This certificate is not eligible to be issued as a Partially Completed Certificate (PCC).

    • At this time, only fresh, chilled and frozen salmonid products of Canadian origin are eligible for export to Australia
  • Aquatic Animal Health Certificate for the Export of Live Finfish, Their Gametes or Germplasm for Research Purposes from Canada to Australia (AQAH-1075)
  • Aquatic Animal Health and Sanitary Certificate for the Export of Thermally Treated Salmonid Products for Human Consumption from Canada to Australia (AQAH-1098)
    • The AQAH-1098 is a Joint Certificate containing both Food Safety/Public Health AND Aquatic Animal Health attestations
      The AQAH-1098 must be validated, dated and issued by the CFIA Inspector while the product is still in Canada and available for inspection. Product which in not located in Canada at the time of signature is not eligible for certification using this export certificate. This certificate is not eligible to be issued as a Partially Completed Certificate (PCC).

  • Health Certificate for Export of Prawns and Prawn Meat for Human Consumption from Canada to Australia (CFIA/ACIA FA1019 (2024-01-01))
    • The CFIA/ACIA FA 1019 is a Joint Certificate containing both Food Safety/Public Health AND Aquatic Animal Health attestations
      The CFIA/ACIA FA 1019 must be validated, dated and issued by the CFIA Veterinary Inspector/Inspector while the product is still in Canada and available for inspection. Product which in not located in Canada at the time of signature is not eligible for certification using this export certificate. This certificate is not eligible to be issued as a Partially Completed Certificate (PCC).
    • Veterinary inspection and endorsement is required for uncoooked highly processed prawns and par cooked breaded, battered or crumbed prawns
      Exporters should contact their local CFIA office in advance to schedule inspections.
