CFIA cancels the Safe Food for Canadians licence of Arctic Pearl Ice and Cold Storage Ltd.

April 13, 2021, Ottawa

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has cancelled the Safe Food for Canadians licence #9HFNLVRD of Arctic Pearl Ice and Cold Storage Ltd., located in Richmond, BC, effective March 26 , 2021.

With this cancellation, the licence holder may not conduct any activity for which SFC licence #9HFNLVRD was issued.

There is no food recall associated with this cancellation.

Prior to this cancellation, the CFIA suspended the licence of Arctic Pearl Ice and Cold Storage Ltd. because the licence holder failed to comply with Part 4 and 5, sections 84(1), 84(2), and 90(1) of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) regarding recall processes, traceability and labelling.

Licence holders are responsible for ensuring they comply with Canada's food laws. The CFIA is committed to enforcing those laws.

Safe Food for Canadians licences can be suspended:

  • for failure to comply with the Safe Food for Canadians Act, the Food and Drugs Act and their related regulations
  • for default of payment of any fee related to the licence
  • if risk of injury to the public may result from continuing to conduct the licensed activity

Arctic Pearl Ice and Cold Storage Ltd. was notified on March 23, 2021 of the grounds being considered for licence cancellation and provided with an opportunity to be heard regarding the cancellation. After meeting with the licence holder, based on a review of the facts and submissions made, the Agency determined that the licence holder failed to take the requisite corrective actions required within the applicable time period and cancelled the licence.
