About the consultation
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) launched a 30-day public consultation to seek comments on the proposed maximum nutrient values for small ruminant sheep and goat feeds.
The input gathered through this process will be used by the CFIA to prepare a comprehensive regulatory proposal for publication in the Canada Gazette Part I.
This consultation is one of several priorities identified to modernize the Feeds Regulations.
Who was the focus of this consultation
The CFIA engaged with animal feed stakeholders, including:
- suppliers of feed ingredients
- commercial feed manufacturers
- feed importers, distributors and retailers
- sheep and goat owners and producers
- industry associations
- other government departments
- international trading partners
- veterinarians
All comments were welcome from industry, governments, the public, or other organizations or individuals.
Key questions for discussion
The CFIA sought feedback on proposed modifications to regulatory requirements related to maximum nutrient content in livestock feed:
- Do you have any concerns with the proposal to establish maximum nutrient values for livestock feeds?
- Do you have any concerns with the proposed maximum nutrient values specifically for sheep and goat feeds?
- Do you have any concerns with raising the exemption for complete feeds not intended for food-producing animals in packages containing up to 10 kg?
