Order declaring a secondary control zone

Whereas:

The Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food (the "Minister"), under subsection 27.1(2) of the Health of Animals ActFootnote 1 (the "act"), has the power to declare, by order, a secondary control zone if the Minister believes that a disease exists in an area outside Canada and the order is made for the purpose of preventing the spread of that disease into Canada or for monitoring that disease;

The power of the Minister, under subsection 27.1(2) of the act, has been delegated to the President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, in accordance with subsection 4(2) of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency Act;

I, Dr. Siddika Mithani, President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, believe that rabies caused by canine-variant viruses, can be prevented from spreading into Canada in the areas in Canada described in the schedule attached hereto;

Therefore, I hereby declare, under subsection 27.1(2) of the act, that the areas described in the Schedule attached hereto are the secondary control zones, effective September 28, 2022, in which I believe that rabies caused by canine-variant viruses may be introduced.
