CFIA suspends the Safe Food for Canadians licence of Cami International Poultry Limited under the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations

Effective July 1, 2020, the Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence of Cami International Poultry Limited was reinstated.

January 20, 2020, Ottawa

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence #3RWXY8FD (Est. 658) of Cami International Poultry Limited, a poultry slaughter establishment located in Welland, Ontario, effective January 10, 2020.

While the suspension is in effect, the licence holder may not conduct any activity for which SFC licence #3RWXY8FD was issued.

CFIA suspended licence #3RWXY8FD of Cami International Poultry Limited because of a human health risk related to the contamination of meat products, the identification, analysis, prevention, reduction and elimination of the hazards associated with contamination, and non-compliances related to the humane receiving and handling of animals requirements. These non-compliances are in contravention of Part 4 and Part 6 of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR).

There is no food recall associated with this suspension.

Licence holders are responsible for ensuring that they comply with Canada's food laws. The agency is committed to enforcing those laws.

Safe Food for Canadians licences can be suspended:

The licence suspension will be lifted if the agency determines that corrective measures have been taken. If corrective action is not taken within 90 days after suspension, the agency may cancel the licence. The agency may also cancel the licence on other grounds set out in section 39 of the SFCR.

Cancellation can occur after the licence holder has been notified of the grounds for cancellation and provided with an opportunity to be heard.
