Biotechnology notices of submission

Submit feedback on a new agricultural product by reviewing its biotechnology notice of submission.

How your feedback will be used

Scientific questions or information will be forwarded to CFIA and Health Canada evaluators for consideration in the safety assessment. Non-scientific input will be evaluated and appropriate ways of addressing it will be explored.

Background

Biotechnology notices of submission are submitted by members of CropLife Canada — an industry association that represents approximately 85% of industry plant biotechnology developers in Canada. Applicable developers and members of CropLife Canada volunteer to write notices of submission to:

  • share product information about plants with novel traits, novel feeds and novel foods
  • give the public an opportunity to provide input on the safety assessment of each submission
  • increase transparency and confidence in the regulatory process

There is no requirement for all companies to post notices of submission in the acts and regulations administered by the CFIA and Health Canada.

Next steps

A list of all authorized plants with novel traits and novel feeds derived therefrom is available. Accompanying decision documents are also available for all authorized plants with novel traits and novel feeds derived therefrom.
