General

  • Origin & Breeding: bred from the cross (A7961-1 x TATA 9192-15) and released by the Les Buissons Research Center, Quebec Ministery of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, at Pointe-aux-Outardes, Quebec, in 1990. Released in 2002.
  • Year registered in Canada: 2002

Botanical Features

  • Plants: medium height; erect; rather large stems, moderately pigmented; single wavy wings; nodes slightly swollen, weakly to moderately pigmented.
  • Leaves: olive green; open; petioles not pigmented.
    Terminal leaflets: medium ovate; tip acuminate; base truncate and asymmetrical; margins slightly wavy.
    Primary leaflets: three pairs; large; narrowly ovate; acuminate tip; base truncate and asymmetrical; margins slightly wavy.
  • Flowers: few; greenish-white corolla with moderately prominent star; flower buds strongly pigmented; bright yellow anthers.
  • Tubers: oblong; russetted brown skin; shallow eyes, moderately numerous, predominantly apical; eyebrows slightly prominent; creamy white flesh.
  • Sprouts: broad cylindrical; red-violet; base moderately pigmented and moderately pubescent; apex weakly pigmented, weakly pubescent, closed habit.

Agricultural Features

High yielding variety; produce large tubers of attractive appearance and thick skin; moderately resistant to bruising, hollow heart, brown heart and vascular net necrosis; highly resistant to second growth. Medium high specific gravity. Medium dormancy period (7 months).

  • Utilization: excellent for boiling and French frying; very good for baking; low after boiling sloughing.
  • Chief Markets: fresh market and French fry.

Reaction to Diseases

Moderately resistant: common scab.
Susceptible: rhizoctonia, late blight.
