General

  • Origin & Breeding: bred from the cross (AF186-2 x AF84-4) made by A.F. Reeves, University of Maine, Presque Isle, Maine (USA) in 1975.

Botanical Features

  • Plants: medium large, spreading; stems not pigmented; medium prominent wings; smooth, unswollen nodes.
  • Leaves: grey green with abundant short pubescence; open; midribs and petioles not pigmented.
    Terminal leaflets: elliptical; apex acuminate; base obtuse.
    Primary leaflets: three to four pairs; elliptical; apex acuminate; base obtuse to slightly cordate.
    Secondary leaflets: three pairs.
  • Flowers: moderately large white corolla; yellow-orange anthers; buds not pigmented; very low berry production.
  • Tubers: round; lightly netted buff skin; medium-deep eyes; white flesh.
  • Sprouts: ovoid; reddish purple; strongly pubescent; closed tip.

Agricultural Features

Medium high yielding variety; good resistance to heat necrosis; moderate resistance to shatter bruises and blackspot; moderately susceptible to hollow hear; susceptible to greening. Very good chip colour even after long term storage; can be chipped directly from 7 °C storage or after reconditioning. Fair storability, medium dormancy period. High specific gravity.

REMARK: not susceptible to the herbicide metribuzin when applied at recommended rates.

  • Utilization: very good for boiling and baking; excellent for for chipping.
  • Chief Market: chipping.

Reaction to Diseases

Highly resistant: leaf roll net necrosis.
Moderately resistant: rhizoctonia, verticillium wilt.
Moderately susceptible: common scab.
Susceptible: PVX, PVY, leaf roll, powdery scab, late blight, early blight, fusarium dry rot, golden nematode.

NOTE: mosaic symptoms appear late in the season.
