General

  • Origin & Breeding: bred by A.D. Mulder from (Primura x Alcmaria) in Enkhuizen (Netherlands).
  • Year registered in Canada: 1999
  • Registration number: 4904
  • Maturity: very early

Botanical Features

  • Plants: semi-erect, medium height; few, thick stems with weak to medium pigmentation; straight single wing; slight swelling of nodes with weak pigmentation.
  • Leaves: large, drooping, dark green, half-open; weak pigmentation on top of midrib.
    Terminal leaflets: medium ovate, acuminate tip, obtuse base, moderately wavy margins.
    Primary leaflets: six pairs, medium ovate, acuminate tip, obtuse and symmetrical base.
    Secondary leaflets: few and large.
  • Flowers: numerous, large, red-violet; long peduncule; calyx strongly pigmented; buds strongly to moderately pigmented; many berries.
  • Tubers: oblong; light yellow, rather smooth skin; medium shallow eyes, evenly distributed; pale yellow flesh.
  • Sprouts: conical, open; medium to weak pubescence; medium to weak red-violet pigmentation except on apex which is green.

Agricultural Features

High yielding variety with good tuber uniformity; few tubers per plant. Rather good resistance to internal bruising. Low dry matter content. Long dormancy.

  • Utilization: firm to fairly firm texture; free from discolouration after cooking; very good for boiling and baking.
  • Chief Markets: early fresh market and seed exportation

Reaction to Diseases

Resistant: golden nematode (Globodera rostochiensis Ro1).
Good resistance: PVX.
Moderately resistant: leaf roll, PVY, common scab, tuber late blight.
Moderately susceptible: powdery scab, blackleg.
Susceptible: leaf late blight.
