Notice to industry – Expansion of the Recognition of Export Grain Analysis by Authorized Laboratories (REGAL) program

June 2, 2020

Each year, the amount of grain sampling and testing completed in Canada increases. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recognizes that industry needs options that can provide them with better market access options to accommodate the demand for Canadian grain.

Effective immediately, Canadian grain exporters with samples that are eligible for testing through the Recognition of Export Grain Analysis by Authorized Laboratories (REGAL) program will have a wider range of options available to them.

Now shipments destined to any country that requires any or all of the following tests for phytosanitary certification are strongly encouraged to use a REGAL laboratory:

Launched in 2017, the REGAL program initially tested grain shipments destined for China, India, Mexico and Vietnam. This expansion increases the number of eligible countries from four to over 100.

Exporters are responsible to ensure their grain has had the correct testing to meet the importing country's requirements. To learn more about the importing country requirements, exporters can contact their local CFIA office.

Read the Guidance to exporters and general requirements to learn how to submit REGAL test results to support a request for phytosanitary certification or contact us by email at SSTS@inspection.gc.ca.
