Notice to industry: Implementation of service fees for the Emerald Ash Borer directive (D-03-08)

January 3, 2024

Effective January 12th, 2024, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is implementing Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) service fees. Fees will be applied for the issuance of movement certificates (MC), movement related inspections for ash regulated articles (including firewood) from regulated areas, and for import inspections.

Service fees for movement certificates, movement related inspections, and import inspections to control the spread of EAB have not been consistently charged in the past because of a fee remission that was in place due to emergency measures applicable to this pest. The CFIA is implementing the applicable service fees for EAB to ensure compliance with the CFIA Fees Notice and to facilitate the transition to digital issuance of MCs in early 2024.

D-03-08: Phytosanitary requirements to prevent the introduction into and spread within Canada of the emerald ash borer, Agrilus planipennis (Fairmaire) has been updated to reflect these changes.

Please contact your local CFIA office for more information.
