Women in Science: meet Victoria Arling and Annie Locas – Transcript
Narrator: Do you love science? Are you wondering what to do with a science degree?
My name is Karen and I'm a science student working in communications at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). I thought I'd ask scientists here how they got started.
Annie Locas completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She went on to complete a Master's of Science in Civil Engineering and a Ph.D. in Biology. Today, she's the National Manager of Microbiology for the Food Safety Science Services Division at the CFIA. Her advice for future scientists: be curious and ask questions!
This is Victoria Arling. Although she was initially interested in becoming a pharmacist, her path actually led her to food science. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Food Science with a concentration in Chemistry. While she was in school, she reached out to a CFIA scientist whose lab she was interested in working in, and this began her career at the Agency. She's now the Section Head for the Microbiology Unit helping to enhance food safety in Canada.
Are you ready to meet more of our amazing scientists? Check out Chronicle 360 to learn more about the important work they do each day to protect Canada's food, animals and plants.
