Variety used for comparison: 'Duemprre'

Summary: The plants of 'KLEVP15488' have a semi-upright growth habit while the plants of 'Duemprre' have a creeping growth habit. The corolla of 'KLEVP15488' is lighter red than the corolla of 'Duemprre'. The corolla of 'KLEVP15488' has a small to medium sized eye present whereas the corolla of 'Duemprre' has no eye present.

Description:

PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, medium to broad just after beginning of flowering
STEM: anthocyanin colouration present

LEAF BLADE: short, narrow, ovate shape, no divisions, dentate margin, dark green on upper side, no anthocyanin colouration on upper side

PETIOLE: very short
INFLORESCENCE: medium diameter, broad obovate in profile
FLOWER BUD: dark purple red (RHS 46A) just before opening
FLOWER: single type
CALYX: anthocyanin colouration present on upper part
COROLLA: arrangement of lobes is touching, medium to large diameter, colour weakly fading with age
COROLLA LOBE: straight along the longitudinal axis, very weak to weak undulation of margin, one colour, shaded colour pattern, mainly red (RHS N45B) lighter towards apex
COROLLA EYE: small to medium diameter, whitish green
COROLLA TUBE: medium length, tips of protruding hairs are light grey

Origin & Breeding History: 'KLEVP15488' originated from a controlled cross conducted by the breeder, Ruijun Li, in Cobbitty, New South Wales, Australia. The cross was made between the female parent variety, 'VC09179', and the male parent variety, 'VC10152', in March 2012. The resultant seedlings were selected in August 2012, in Cobbitty, Australia based on their plant growth habit, flower colour and size, and branching characteristics. A single seedling was selected for commercialization and named 'KLEVP15488' in December 2014.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'KLEVP15488' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2016/1696, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, in Angers, France. The trial was conducted in 2017 by the Naktuinbouw, in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
