Summary: The plants of 'Levgreen' have medium to medium dense branching and are shorter than those of 'Sem', which have sparse branching. The stem internode length of 'Levgreen' is shorter than that of 'Sem'. The leaf blade of 'Levgreen' is narrower than that of 'Sem'. The leaflet of 'Levgreen' is shorter than the leaflet of 'Sem'.

STEM: light green when young, light brown when mature and aged, sparse pubescence, round shape in cross-section, smooth texture of bark, medium number of lenticels
LEAF: pinnately compound type, opposite arrangement of leaflets along stem
LEAF BLADE: lanceolate shape, acuminate apex, cuneate base, serrated margin, no lobing, no variegation, weak to medium rugosity, weak to medium waviness of margin
LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): light green at mid-season, absent or very sparse pubescence
LEAF BLADE (LOWER SIDE): light green at mid-season, absent or very sparse pubescence, weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration along veins
FLOWER: not observed
Origin & Breeding History: 'Levgreen' originated from a naturally occurring whole plant mutation of an unnamed Sorbaria sorbifolia plant discovered and developed by the breeder Denis Levac of Saint-Paul de Joliette, Quebec, Canada. The new variety was discovered as a plant in a container bed in Ste-Therese, Quebec, Canada in the summer of 2007 and selected for its compact plant growth habit, poor sucker production and sparse flowering. 'Levgreen' was first propagated asexually by stem cuttings in 2008 in Ste-Therese, Quebec, Canada.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Levgreen' was conducted in an outdoor container trial during the summer of 2020 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 10 shrubs each of the candidate and reference variety. All shrubs were grown from bareroot plants and transplanted into 13.6 litre containers in May 2020. Trials were arranged outdoors in rows with 1 metre spacing between plants. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety on June 22, 2020. The flowering characteristics were not observed. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
