Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Pure Joy'

Summary: The stem of 'Bundle of Joy' has absent or very weak to weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration while that of 'Pure Joy' has weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The leaf blade of 'Bundle of Joy' is larger than that of 'Pure Joy'. The upper and lower sides of the petal of 'Bundle of Joy' are white while that of 'Pure Joy' are light blue pink.

LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): absent or very sparse pubescence, absent or very weak to weak glaucosity, dark brown green to medium brown green (RHS 146B/C), absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF BLADE (LOWER SIDE): absent or very sparse pubescence

FLOWERING PERIOD: late season, medium to long
INFLORESCENCE: cyme type, terminal position only, erect attitude
FLOWER: very open petal arrangement , very few petals, 5 petals

Origin & Breeding History: 'Bundle of Joy' originated as a sport of the Sedum variety 'Pure Joy' discovered at Walters Gardens in Zeeland Michigan in 2012. 'Bundle of Joy' was selected for further evaluation in the summer of 2015 based on performance and flower colour.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Bundle of Joy' was conducted in 2021 at Variety Rights Management in Oxford Station, Ontario. The trial included 15 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. The plants were grown in 22 cm pots and the trial was arranged outdoors in rows with 45 cm spacing between plants. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of 10 plants, of each variety. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
