Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'Eisprinzessin' and 'McKays White'

Summary: The plants of 'Hachbianca' are very short to short whereas the plants of both reference varieties are short to medium height. The young stem of 'Hachbianca' is green tinged lightly with purple whereas the young stem of both reference varieties are light green. The inner side of the petal of 'Hachbianca' is white whereas that of 'Eisprinzessin' is light yellow and that of 'McKays White' is yellowish white.

LEAF: very short to short, narrow, low to medium length to width ratio, upper side brown green (closest to RHS 137B but more grey), no variegation, absent or very sparse pubescence on upper side, medium density pubescence on lower side, few leaflets, no overlapping of top three leaflets
LEAFLET: narrow elliptic, strongly recurved margin
STIPULE: light brown
PETIOLE: medium to long

FLOWERING: continuous
FLOWER BUD: spherical, white (RHS 155B)
INFLORESCENCE: medium to many flowers
FLOWERING LATERAL: medium to long
PEDICEL: stiff attitude
EPICALYX LOBE: deltoid shape, no lateral lobes

Origin & Breeding History: 'Hachbianca' originated from a cross pollination conducted by the breeder, Holger Hachmann, in Barmstedt, Germany, in June of 2010. The cross was made between the female parent variety 'Manchu' and the male parent variety 'Eisprinzessin'. The new variety was selected in June of 2014, in Barmstedt, based on it growth habit, foliage colour, flower colour and flowering period. Asexual reproduction of 'Hachbianca' was first conducted by softwood cuttings in July of 2014, in Barmstedt, Germany.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Hachbianca' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2016/1237, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted at the National Institute of Agricultural Botany in Cambridge, United Kingdom in 2017. Colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
