Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Anuschka'

Summary: The base of the light sprout of 'Coronada' has absent or very sparse pubescence while that of 'Anuschka' has dense pubescence. 'Coronada' has a weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the tip of the lightsprout while it is medium to strong in 'Anuschka'. The lightsprout of 'Coronada' has few root tips while that of 'Anuschka' has a medium number of root tips. The leaf of 'Coronada' has a large outline with a weak presence of secondary leaflets while the leaf of 'Anuschka' has a medium sized outline with a medium presence of secondary leaflets. 'Coronada' has an absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration along the midrib of the upper side of the leaf while it is of medium intensity for 'Anuschka'. 'Coronada' has an absent to very low frequency of coalescence of the terminal and lateral leaflets while it is medium in 'Anuschka'. At the apical rosette, the leaflet blade of 'Coronada' has pubescence while that of 'Anuschka' does not. 'Coronada' has a taller plant height than 'Anuschka'. The extent of anthocyanin colouration on the inner side of the corolla of 'Coronada' is absent or very low while it is high in 'Anuschka'. 'Coronada' has an absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the inner side of the corolla while it is weak to medium in 'Anuschka'.

LEAF: large outline, intermediate to open, weak presence of secondary leaflets, medium green, absent or very low extent and absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the midrib of upper side, absent or very low frequency of coalescence of terminal and lateral leaflets

Origin & Breeding History: 'Coronada' originated from a cross between the selections 'L 363/88/4835' and 'L 4115/12' conducted in 1999 in Ebstorf, Germany. From the resulting progeny, 'Coronada' was selected in 2001 based on positive agronomic characteristics.

Tests & Trials: The comparative test and trial for 'Coronada' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the growing season of 2017 in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 21.2 metre long row containing 70 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. The mean difference was significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
