Summary: The plants of 'Sunbui Sairemi' are taller than those of 'Surfinia Trailing Magenta'. The leaves of 'Sunbui Sairemi' are longer than those of 'Surfinia Trailing Magenta'. The pedicels of 'Sunbui Sairemi' are longer than those of 'Surfinia Trailing Magenta'. The corolla of 'Sunbui Sairemi' has a strong degree of lobing whereas that of 'Surfinia Trailing Magenta' has a medium degree of lobing.

Description:

PLANT: semi-upright to spreading growth habit
SHOOT: thick in lower third

LEAF BLADE: ovate and elliptic shape, narrow acute to broad acute apex, no variegation, medium green on upper side, absent or weak blistering

PEDICEL: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration
FLOWER: single type, campanulate shape
COROLLA: strong degree of lobing, absent or very shallow incisions of margin, medium to strong degree of undulation, weak conspicuousness of veins, purple veins, when newly open inner side is purple (closest to RHS N74A), when fully open inner side is purple (closest to RHS N74A), when aged inner side is purple (closest to RHS N74A)
COROLLA LOBE: cuspidate apex
COROLLA TUBE (INNER SIDE): violet (RHS 77A), strong conspicuousness of brown purple (RHS N77A) veins
ANTHER: light blue before dehiscence

Origin & Breeding History: 'Sunbui Sairemi' originated from a controlled pollination between the female parent, proprietary variety 'LNPR', and the male parent, propriety variety 'Pri-198'. The cross was conducted in March 2011 at the Omi Research and Development Center of Suntory Flowers Ltd. in Higashiomi-shi, Shiga, Japan. 'Sunbui Sairemi' was selected in June 2011 based on its growth habit, flower size and flower colour.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Sunbui Sairemi' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2016 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 17, 2016. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety on May 16 and 17, 2016. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
