Variety used for comparison: 'Hattrick'

Summary: The plants of 'Matthews' are taller than those of 'Hattrick'. The leaf blade of 'Matthews' is long with a medium degree of blistering while that of 'Hattrick' is medium to long with medium to strong blistering. At maturity, the fruit skin of 'Matthews' is darker yellow than that of 'Hattrick'. The fruit of 'Matthews' matures early to mid-season while that of 'Hattrick' matures mid-season.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Matthews' (breeder's reference 35-1075 RZ) originated from a controlled cross conducted between two proprietary lines in June 2014 in De Lier, Netherlands. From the resulting progeny, the hybrid yellow sweet pepper variety 'Matthews' was selected in September 2015 for its plant vigour, fruit quality, yield, and resistance to Tobamovirus.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Matthews' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number PPS1896, purchased from the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The trial was conducted by the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2019 and 2020.
