Summary: The fruit of 'PremP109' begin to ripen late in the season while the fruit of 'PremP45' begin to ripen mid-season. The hue of over colour of the fruit of 'PremP109' is pink red while it is orange red to dark red for the fruit of 'PremP45'.
Description:
TREE: upright growth habit, medium vigour, no self-compatibility
ONE YEAR OLD SHOOT: short, medium thickness, greenish brown, short internodes, many small lenticels, weak pubescence, many axillary flower buds
BRANCH: many spurs
VEGETATIVE BUD: begins to open mid-season, narrow acute apex, slightly held out position in relation to shoot
PETIOLE: long
YOUNG LEAF: red brown upper side, dense pubescence on lower side
LEAF BLADE: ovate, acuminate apex, rounded base, crenate incisions of margin, long, broad, small petiole to blade ratio
INFLORESCENCE: many flowers, begins flowering early season
PEDICEL: medium density pubescence
FLOWER BUD: medium sized, elliptic, red brown scales
FLOWER: five or less petals, many stamens
PETAL: large, round, white on outer side before opening, white on inner side when fully opened, few notches on margin
ANTHER: strong intensity of red colouration, few pollen

Origin & Breeding History: 'PremP109' originated from a controlled cross between female parent variety 'P125R74T032' (not patented) and male parent variety 'P125R95T0002' (not patented) at the New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand in 1996. 'PremP109' was selected as a single plant from among a population of resulting seedlings, based on its red fruit colour, appearance, texture, flavour and shelf life. 'PremP109' was asexually reproduced by budding in Nelson, New Zealand.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'PremP109' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number PER024, purchased from the New Zealand Intellectual Property Office, Plant Variety Rights Office, New Zealand. The trials were conducted by the Cultivar Centre, Plant & Food Research, Motueka, New Zealand, from 2013 to 2015.
