Summary: The leaf blade of 'HABsf1007' is larger than that of 'Hakonechloa macra'. The upper side of the leaf blade of 'HABsf1007' is light green with medium to dark red purple at the distal end while that of 'Hakonechloa macra' is brown green with light to medium purple brown at the distal end.

Description:

PLANT: semi-erect attitude
STEM: light grey brown, shoot is light brown green

LEAF BLADE: elliptic, no variegation, upper and lower sides light green (RHS 145A) with medium to dark red purple at distal end, weakly to moderately concave in cross-section, medium degree of twisting in longitudinal section, weak undulation of margin, acute apex

FLOWER: light grey brown

Origin & Breeding History: 'HABsf1007' originated as a naturally occurring mutation discovered and developed by the breeder, Lyle Courtice, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. The new variety was discovered in 2010 as a naturally occurring shoot mutation of the Hakonechloa macra variety 'All Gold' that was growing in a container in New Westminster, British Columbia. The breeder selected the new variety based on plant growth habit, plant vigour, foliage colour and cold hardiness. Asexual reproduction of 'HABsf1007' was first conducted by shoot division in 2012 in New Westminster, British Columbia.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'HABsf1007' is based on the UPOV Report of Technical Examination, application number 2016/1671, purchased from the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The trials were conducted by the Naktuinbouw in 2017. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
