Origin & Breeding History: 'Balfiecoran' originated from a cross pollination conducted in October 2011 as part of a controlled breeding program in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, USA. The cross was conducted between two unpatented proprietary breeding selections of Impatiens walleriana, the female parent designated 1071-1, and the male parent designated 1064c-1. In October 2012, 'Balfiecoran' was selected for its freely branching growth habit, foliage colour, large fully double-type flowers and flower colour. Since the time of selection, asexual propagation has been through the use of terminal stem cuttings.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Balfiecoran' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2020 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 12 cm pots on April 16, 2020. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on June 2, 2020. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
