Variety used for comparison: 'Fisupnic Coral Ice' (Super Sonic Coral Ice 2003)

Summary: 'KIE011024' produces a shorter, narrower plant than 'Fisupnic Coral Ice'. 'KIE011024' has a shorter leaf blade length than 'Fisupnic Coral Ice'. 'KIE011024' has weak anthocyanin colouration on the veins on the lower side of the leaf while 'Fisupnic Coral Ice' has medium to strong anthocyanin. 'KIE011024' has a lighter reddish pink flower colour than 'Fisupnic Coral Ice'.

Description:

'KIE011024' is a New Guinea Impatiens variety with medium anthocyanin colouration on the upper third of the shoot. The leaf has a medium length to width ratio and is not variegated. The main colour of the upper side of the leaf blade is medium green. There is very weak anthocyanin on the midrib on the upper side of the leaf. The lower side of the leaf is green in colour between the veins. The lower side of the leaf blade has medium anthocyanin on the midrib and weak anthocyanin on the veins. The petiole is medium in length and has weak to medium anthocyanin on the upper side.

'KIE011024' has single reddish pink flowers with a large pink and white eye zone. The incision on the lower petal is medium to deep and the lower petal is medium in length. The upper petal is narrow to medium in width. The pedicel and spur have medium to strong anthocyanin and the spur has a medium to strong curvature.

Origin & Breeding History: 'KIE011024' was the result of a controlled cross, made in Gensingen, Germany. The variety was selected in 2000 for its large reddish pink flower colour and vigorous plant habit.

Tests & Trials: 'KIE011024' was tested in a greenhouse during the spring and summer of 2004, in St. Thomas, Ontario. Trials included 15 plants of the candidate and reference variety. Rooted cuttings were planted into 6cm cells in week 19 and transplanted into 15cm pots in week 25. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on August 6, 2004. Colour determinations were made using the 2001 RHS Colour Chart.
