Origin & Breeding History: 'Bailpanone' originated as a seedling that arose from seed derived from an open pollination conducted by the breeders in the summer of 2012 in Watkinsville, Georgia, USA. The open pollination occurred between the female parent variety 'PIIHP-1' and an unknown male parent. The new variety was selected as a single unique plant in the summer of 2013 based on plant growth habit, blooming habit and heat tolerance in southern climates. Asexual reproduction of 'Bailpanone' was first conducted by softwood stem cuttings in the summer of 2014, in Watkinsville, Georgia, USA.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Bailpanone' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2021, at BioFlora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 10 shrubs of the candidate variety, 9 shrubs of the reference variety 'PIIHP-1' and 7 shrubs of the reference variety 'Rensun'. All shrubs were grown from bareroot plants and transplanted into 14 litre containers in early spring of 2021. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety on July 15, 2021. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
