Description:

'Yoauburn' is a year round, pinched, spray pot chrysanthemum. It is medium to tall in height and develops a medium number of primary lateral shoots after pinching. Stem anthocyanin colouration is weak. Lower leaf lobes are short in length and the margins of the sinus between lateral lobes are parallel to converging.

'Yoauburn' flowers in 8 weeks and has a single, daisy flower head which is medium in diameter. Bracts among florets are absent. The ray florets have very short to short corolla tubes. The ray florets are straight with a slight recurve at the apex and flat in cross section. The tips are pointed, emarginate and dentate. The upper surface of the ray floret is overall RHS 167A or slightly more yellow than RHS 167A overall with a base colour of RHS 4A overlaid with RHS 46A which is more prominent at the apex. Immature florets have more red colouration. The lower surface of the ray floret is RHS 164C overall with a base colour of RHS 4A to 4B with faint reddish undertones. The disc is yellow-green before anther dehiscence and yellow at anther dehiscence. The disc has tubular disc florets which are numerous, massed and clearly visible at all stages of flower head development.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Yoauburn' originated from a cross made by the breeders in Salinas, California is October, 1994. The parents were two proprietary seedlings. The variety was selected as a flowering plant within the progeny in a controlled environment in Fort Myers, Florida, USA in November, 1996. Selection was based on desirable inflorescence form, floret colours and good post-production longevity. Asexual reproduction of the new variety by vegetative tip cuttings was first conducted in January, 1997.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Yoauburn' were conducted at Yoder Canada Ltd., Leamington, Ontario in 2000. Flowering trials were performed under greenhouse conditions which approximate those used in commercial greenhouse practice. The varieties in the flowering trial were grown in 15 cm pots with 4 cuttings per pot, and 10 pots per variety. Growth regulators were applied twice to obtain a commercially acceptable plant height.
