Summary: The plants of 'DrisBlackTwelve' have many new canes while the plants of 'DrisBlackNine' have few new canes. The plants of 'DrisBlackTwelve' have suckering from the roots while the plants of 'DrisBlackNine' are non-suckering. There are few branches on the dormant cane of 'DrisBlackTwelve' while there are medium to many branches on the dormant cane of 'DrisBlackNine'. There are no spines on the dormant cane of 'DrisBlackTwelve' while there are many spines on the dormant cane of 'DrisBlackNine'. During rapid growth, the intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the young shoot of 'DrisBlackTwelve' is weak to medium while it is absent or very weak for that of 'DrisBlackNine'. The young shoot of 'DrisBlackTwelve' is medium green with many glandular hairs while that of 'DrisBlackNine' is light green with absent or few glandular hairs. The terminal leaflet of 'DrisBlackTwelve' is smaller than that of 'DrisBlackNine'. The leaflet of 'DrisBlackTwelve' has deep incisions along the margin while that of 'DrisBlackNine' has very shallow incisions. The upper side of the leaf of 'DrisBlackTwelve' is dark green with weak glossiness while the leaf of 'DrisBlackNine' is medium green with medium to strong glossiness. There are no prickles on the fruiting lateral of 'DrisBlackTwelve' while there are many on the fruiting lateral of 'DrisBlackNine'. The fruit of 'DrisBlackTwelve' is narrower than that of 'DrisBlackNine'. The fruit of 'DrisBlackTwelve' has a medium number of large drupelets and is circular while the fruit of 'DrisBlackNine' has many medium sized drupelets and is oblong.

TERMINAL LEAFLET: no lobing, u-shaped in cross-section, weak undulation of margin, medium to strong blistering between veins, deep bi-serrated incisions of margin
BEGINNING OF FLOWERING: late on previous year's and current year's cane

Origin & Breeding History: 'DrisBlackTwelve' was discovered in Santa Cruz County, California, USA in June 2008 originating from a cross conducted in April 2006 between 'BM711', 858A5, (proprietary female parent) and 'BH936-6' (proprietary male parent). The original seedling was first asexually propagated at a nursery in Santa Cruz County, California in October 2008. Initial selection criteria included thornlessness and primocane fruiting. 'DrisBlackTwelve' was further propagated by tissue culture and root cuttings and underwent testing at a nursery in Santa Cruz County, California from 2012 to 2014.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'DrisBlackTwelve' was conducted in Chilliwack, British Columbia during the 2017 and 2018 growing seasons. Each variety consisted of 3 replicates per variety with 3 plants per replicate for a total of 9 plants of each variety. Plants were spaced approximately 1 metre apart in the row. Measured characteristics were based on 10 measurements.
