On August 18, 2026, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) suspended the Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence # 4TKDN6R6 of Ramelli Truffles Ltd., located in Toronto, Ontario.
While the suspension is in effect, the licence holder may not conduct any activity for which SFC licence # 4TKDN6R6 was issued.
When a business fails to comply with its obligations under the Safe Food for Canadians Act and the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations concerning food safety, the CFIA may suspend its licence.
The CFIA suspended the licence because the licence holder failed to take corrective actions to comply with Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) requirements including:
- hazard identification
- labelling requirements
- traceability
- recall preparedness
- licensing permissions
Compliance with all regulations is required to maintain a safe food system and prevent food safety risks, including risks that can result in food recalls. A licence suspension is an enforcement action under the SFCA. Licence holders are required to comply with the legislation enforced by the CFIA.
There is no recall associated with this suspension.
The CFIA suspended the licence on the ground set out in paragraph 35(a) of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), which authorizes the Minister to suspend a SFC licence when a licence holder does not comply with applicable requirements under the Safe Food for Canadians Act (SFCA) and its Regulations, or the Food and Drugs Act (FDA) and its Regulations. In this case, the non-compliances were related to Parts 4 and 5 of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations.
The suspension will be lifted when it is determined that corrective measures have been taken by the licence holder. If corrective action is not taken within 90 days, the licence may be cancelled. The licence may also be cancelled on other grounds set out in section 39 of the SFCR. Cancellation may occur after the licence holder has been notified of the grounds for cancellation and provided with an opportunity to be heard.
