The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) cancelled the Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence #8XBNMC8N issued to Jagger Trading Inc., located in Thornhill, Ontario, effective May 7, 2025.
With this cancellation, the licence holder may not conduct any activity for which SFC licence #8XBNMC8N was issued.
The CFIA cancelled the licence in accordance with paragraph 39 (e) of the SFCR because the licence holder failed to comply with section 15 of the Safe Food for Canadians Act (SFCA) relating to the declaration of imported live freshwater mitten crab of the genus Eriocheir, which are prohibited under the paragraph 105(1)(a) of the SFCR. Section 15 of the SFCA states that it is prohibited for any person to make a false or misleading statement, or to provide false or misleading information to any person exercising powers or performing duties under the Act in connection with any matter under any provision of the SFCA or the SFCR.
Following this contravention of the SFCA, the CFIA notified Jagger Trading Inc., on February 6, 2025, of the grounds being considered for licence cancellation. The licence holder was provided with an opportunity to be heard on April 7, 2025. Based on a review of the facts and submissions made by the licence holder, the CFIA determined that the licence holder failed to comply with section 15 of the SFCA and their licence was cancelled.
There is no food recall associated with this cancellation.
Licence holders are responsible for ensuring they comply with Canada's food laws. The CFIA is committed to enforcing those laws.
