1. Eligible/ineligible product

1.1 Eligible

  • Beef including offal derived from cattle of all ages
  • Swine
  • Poultry

2. Pre-export approvals by competent authority of importing country

2.1 Establishments

  • All federal meat establishments are eligible to export meat derived from cattle of all ages including offal, pork and poultry

    Guatemala maintains a list of Canadian meat establishments. In order to avoid unnecessary delays at the border or possibly refusals, exporters should confirm, prior to export, that Canadian beef, pork or poultry establishments, as well as storage facilities, appear in the list of approved establishments published by the Guatemala authorities.

  • In case the establishment name and number does not appear in the list of approved establishments published by Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) (Annex 1: List of establishments approved to export to Guatemala) and the Guatemala authorities, the operators are required to contact local CFIA staff for addition of their name and number to the Guatemala list

3. Labelling, marking and packaging requirements

  • Exporters are responsible to comply with the labelling requirements of Guatemala

4. Documentation requirements

Certificate

  • Annex B (CFIA/ACIA 1454S Certificate of Inspection Covering Meat Products – English/Spanish), available in the Forms Catalogue is to accompany the shipment of all meat products to Guatemala

    Annex B may only be issued in English/Spanish. A French version of this document is provided for information purposes only.

    • The CFIA/ACIA 1454, Certificate of Inspection Covering Meat Products must not be completed and is to be used only for the purpose of obtaining a serial number which should be typed on annex B

      Subsequently, CFIA/ACIA 1454 is to be voided. The Ottawa copy of the CFIA/ACIA 1454 is then to be forwarded to Ottawa stapled with a copy of annex B. The inspector's copy of the CFIA/ACIA 1454 and another copy of annex B will be kept on file.

  • For beef products, including offal: annex A must also be issued with annex B.
  • For pork: annex B must be issued with the following statement, in both English and Spanish, in the "Additional Certification" section:
    • "The pigs from which the meat was derived originated from farms located in a country, zone or compartment which is free from African Swine Fever (ASF) as defined by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) / Los cerdos de los que se ha obtenido la carne proceden de explotaciones situadas en un país, una zona o un compartimento libre de peste porcina africana (PPA) como definida por la Organización Mundial de Sanidad Animal (OMSA)"
  • For poultry: annex B must be issued with the following statement, in both English and Spanish, in the "Additional Certification" section:
    • "The birds from which the meat was derived originated from farms located in a zone free of Newcastle disease and highly pathogenic avian influenza as defined by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) / Las aves de las que se derivó la carne procedían de granjas ubicadas en un zona libre de enfermedad de Newcastle y de influenza aviar altamente patógena, tal como se define por la Organización Mundial de Sanidad Animal (OMSA)"

Shipments may be subjected to microbiology and chemical residue testing on arrival in Guatemala
