Feed manufacturers are implementing measures to reduce person-to-person interactions in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Due to COVID 19, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has determined that third-party audits scheduled under the Canadian Ractopamine-free Pork Certification Program (CRFPCP) may be temporarily postponed, effective immediately.
Commercial feed facilities enrolled in the CRFPCP that have a third party audit scheduled between March and May 31, 2020, may re-schedule their audit for a later date without impacting their certification status.
Once the audit has been re-scheduled, the commercial feed facility should follow these steps:
- Inform the CFIA's Animal Feed Division that the audit has been re-scheduled by emailing cfia.afp-paa.acia@inspection.gc.ca.
- Once the re-scheduled third-party audits are completed, send a signed copy of the Audit Result Summary (Annex 6) by email to the CFIA's Animal Feed Division within the following timelines:
- within 24 hours of the identification of a major deviation affecting program status or
- within 2 business days of receiving the audit report signed by the external auditor
The CFIA will update the facility's file, and the commercial feed facility's name will remain on the list of commercial feed facilities enrolled in the Canadian Ractopamine-Free Pork Certification Program on the CFIA website.
As always, commercial feed facilities enrolled in the CRFPCP are responsible for meeting program requirements when manufacturing and delivering feeds to customers and documenting manufacturing conditions.
This temporary measure is in effect until May 31, 2020, and may be revisited as the COVID-19 situation evolves.
