November 8, 2025 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has completed the disposal activities at the ostrich farm in Edgewood, British Columbia. The disposal followed all biosecurity and biocontainment protocols to mitigate the risk of spreading HPAI. The final count of birds on the farm was 314.
The premises is still quarantined under the Health of Animals Act. Permission from the CFIA is required to enter property covered by existing search warrants, which includes the areas of the farm subject to ongoing biocontainment requirements.
Next steps
The CFIA has started its preparations for demobilisation.
The order declaring the farm to be an infected place remains in effect and will continue until cleaning and disinfection, with a fallow period as needed, is completed. This is a standard procedure for all HPAI infected premises.
The CFIA will provide the farm owners with guidance on the steps required to allow for the full release of their premises.
