May 7, 2018
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Health Canada have launched a 60-day consultation period from May 7 to July 5, 2018, to seek feedback on proposed classification criteria for products containing viable microbial products (VMPs) in livestock species. VMPs are fed to livestock as a source of viable cells whose main purpose in the diet is to have beneficial effects in target livestock species.
This consultation seeks feedback on Appendix E-2: Viable microbial products (VMPs), a proposed addition to Health Canada's Guidance document on classification of veterinary drugs and livestock feeds.
We encourage the following stakeholders to provide feedback by July 5, 2018:
- pharmaceutical companies
- livestock feed manufacturers
- food producers
- producer association groups
- veterinary associations
- other government agencies
For more information and to submit your comments, please see the consultation on appendix E-2: viable microbial products (VMPs).
