My name is Mary Jane Ireland, and I am Canada’s Chief Veterinary Officer.
Today on World Veterinary Day, I wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate veterinarians across the world and to recognize all of their efforts to keep our pets, herds, and flocks healthy and the food we eat safe.
I'd like to acknowledge the incredible dedication and professionalism of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's veterinarians and all of our colleagues across the agency.
They work tirelessly to prevent and control diseases like avian influenza, foot-and-mouth disease, African swine fever and SARS-CoV-2 in animals, to name just a few.
