May 10, 2016, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the fish import licence of Polish Trade Centre Ltd., effective April 29, 2016. The company is located in Mississauga, Ontario.

The fish import licence was suspended because the company contravened paragraphs 6(2)(e) and 6(2.1)(a) of the Fish Inspection Regulations. The company failed to notify the CFIA of imported shipments of canned fish products either prior to or within 48 hours following the importation and misrepresented the quantity imported.

The company also violated division B.27.003(c) of the Food and Drug Regulations by selling products which were rejected for container integrity.

On February 19, 2016, the CFIA authorized a Class III product recall associated with this suspension:

  • Notification – Losos brand fish products recalled due to container integrity issues

On January 28, 2016, the CFIA authorized a Class II food safety warning associated with this company:

  • Food Recall Warning (Allergen) – Losos brand fish products recalled due to undeclared mustard and wheat

On January 8, 2016, the CFIA authorized a Class I food safety warning associated with this company:

  • Food Safety Warning (Allergen) – Losos brand Fish Salad Neptun contains undeclared wheat

The company may not import fish into Canada while its fish import licence is suspended.

An appeal can be requested within 60 days of suspension of the fish import licence. This request must be accompanied by an acceptable, written corrective action plan.

Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended or cancelled for failure to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. The CFIA publishes a list of suspensions and cancellations on its web site.
