Update for labelling of foodservice packaged products and prepackaged meat products during the COVID-19 pandemic

2020-09-04

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has extended the temporary enforcement flexibility for non-food safety labelling requirements for foodservice packaged products and prepackaged meat products.

Notices to industry for labelling regarding temporary enforcement flexibility for foodservice packaged products and prepackaged meat products were to be in effect until September 5, 2020 and September 14, 2020, respectively.

The CFIA has extended the period of flexibility for both foodservice packaged products and prepackaged meat products to December 31, 2020.

All requirements that were outlined in the previous notices continue to apply during this extended period.

The CFIA's long-standing compliance and enforcement policy is to respond to non-compliance with fairness, impartiality and transparency. The CFIA continues to do so with the additional considerations raised by COVID-19.
