There is currently no regulatory requirement under Part XV of the Health of Animals Regulations for the identification of caprine or cervid species. Proposed amendments to those Regulations would introduce a requirement for the identification of caprine and cervid species.
The indicators listed here for caprine and cervid would be approved for caprine and cervid under the proposed amendments to Part XV of the Health of Animals Regulations.

Pre-approved indicators for caprine (goat)
The means of identifying animals listed below are pre-approved indicators for caprine.
- Pre-approved technology:
- FDX, HDX and non-electronic
- Pre-approved manner to identify:
- (a) ear tag with marking and identification number facing forward; (b) leg band with marking and identification number, and; (c) indicator applied to the tail web with marking and identification number.
- Scope of approval:
- the indicators bearing an ISO 11784 number listed under this section would be approved for all types of domestic movement of caprine and caprine carcasses, and their export. The indicators with herd mark listed under this section would be approved for caprine aged 12 months or less and moved directly from a farm to an abattoir.

The image includes three different views of a metal, thin rectangular-shaped clip (weight 4.2 g) that is one solid piece and is bent in the middle. The clip is made of stainless steel and is not painted, with a lock system on the left side when the indicator is facing up. The image on the left shows the bend of the clip on the left side, with the marking "ALTA AG" above another marking "AMSW" facing out and the tip of the right side of the clip slightly bent towards the inside of the clip. The image on the centre shows the bend of the clip on the right side, with the number "22X" facing out.
