The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has launched a streamlined service for processing import permits for animal pathogens. The revised process provides a single point-of-entry into the Agency for animal health import requests.

The import permit process is essential in reducing the potential risks to Canadian people, industries and the environment. The CFIA has consolidated the issuance of all animal health import permits, by moving the administrative processes from the Office of Biosafety and Containment (OBSC) to the National Service Centre's Centre of Administration.

This consolidation will simplify the processing and billing of animal pathogen import permit applications and is the continuation of the commitment to simplify permitting activities at the Agency. Importers of animal pathogens may now submit applications (Application for Permit to Import CFIA/ACIA 5083) to the Centre of Administration at Permission@inspection.gc.ca. To obtain updates or track pending applications, importers may contact the Centre of Administration by phone at 1-855-212-7695 or 613-773-5131.
