Aquatic animal export: certification requirements for China (People's Republic of)

Exporters are advised that in order to be eligible for certification to China they must contact their local Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Office in advance of export to determine the requirements and accommodate the scheduling of inspections (if required). If you require any other information on export certification, please contact your local CFIA Office.

The following certificates are available:

  • Aquatic Animal Health Certificate for the Export of Live Molluscs and their Gametes or Germplasm for Aquaculture or Research Purposes from Canada to the People's Republic of China (AQAH-1003)
    • The commodity for AQAH-1003 may require sampling and testing.
  • Veterinary Health Certificate for the Export of Crustacean Chitin to China (AQAH-1005)
  • Aquatic Animal Health Certificate for the Export of Wild Caught Eels (Anguilla species) for Aquaculture Purposes from Canada to the People's Republic of China (AQAH-1017)
    • The commodity for AQAH-1017 requires sampling and testing.
  • Aquatic Animal Health Certificate for the Export of Live Aquatic Animals intended for Ornamental Display Purposes from Canada to the People's Republic of China (AQAH-1026)
  • Aquatic Animal Health Certificate for the Export of Finfish Eyed Eggs for Aquaculture Purposes from Canada to the People's Republic of China (AQAH-1042)
    • The commodity for AQAH-1042 may require sampling and testing.

Important Notes:

  • All exporters of live aquatic animals, including their fertilized eggs (germplasm) or gametes, for purposes of aquaculture, breeding, research or ornamental display must be on the Quarantine Registration List of Overseas Animals and Plants and Relevant Products as maintained on the website of China's General Administration of China Customs (GACC) Department of Animal and Plant Quarantine (DAPQ). Exporters are advised to contact their local CFIA Animal Health Office to inquire about the process and request registration.
  • Exporters of crustacean shells for chitin should confirm with their importer whether establishment registration is required.
  • All exporters are encouraged to confirm with their Chinese importers that they meet China's import requirements, including establishment registration, prior to exporting. Please note that the People's Republic of China has notified that imports of aquatic animal genetically modified organism's (GMO's) and their products are not permitted at this time. As a result, aquatic animal GMO's (including live salmonids, their gametes or germplasm) or their products are not eligible for export to China.
