Effective March 25, 2020, the Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence of Silani Sweet Cheese was reinstated.

February 18, 2020, Ottawa

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence # 8LMFBCR8 of Silani Sweet Cheese, a dairy facility in Bradford West Gwillumbury, Ontario, effective February 14, 2020.

While the suspension is in effect, the licence holder may not conduct any activity for which SFC licence # 8LMFBCR8 was issued.

CFIA suspended the licence # 8LMFBCR8 of Silani Sweet Cheese for failure to implement effective corrective measures for non-compliances under Part 4 of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR).

A recall of the product commonly known as Mozzarella Ball produced by this licence holder was published on February 14, 2020, due to possible generic E. coli contamination. There have been no reported cases of illness associated with the consumption of this product.

Licence holders are responsible for ensuring that they comply with Canada's food laws. The agency is committed to enforcing those laws.

Safe Food for Canadians licences can be suspended:

The licence suspension will be lifted if the agency determines that corrective measures have been taken. If corrective action is not taken within 90 days after suspension, the agency may cancel the licence. The agency may also cancel the licence on other grounds set out in section 39 of the SFCR.

Cancellation can occur after the licence holder has been notified of the grounds for cancellation and provided with an opportunity to be heard.
